International Seminar : "The Traces of Ye Lang Culture in Vietnam [11/27/2010]

On 2nd Nov, 2010 in the Museum of Vietnamese History, Hanoi (MVH), the Center for Southeast Asian Prehistory organized together with MVH an International Seminar focusing on the thema "Traces of Yelang Culture in Vietnam". Ca 50 scientists from Vietnam, China, Japan and Germany have discussed to five papers presented by Dr. Yang Yong (Inst. of Archaeology, Peking), Dr. Nguyen Viet and Mr. Ta Duc (Center for SEA Prehistory, Hanoi), Dr. A. Reinecke (KAAK, German Inst. of Archaeology, Bonn) and Dr. Nguyen Huu Tam (Inst. of History, Hanoi). The former State President of Vietnam, Prof. Tran Duc Luong was present in the Seminar.

The presenters informed their new discoveries and recent studing results on archaeological objects of Dong Son culture in close relationship with ones excavated in KeLe culture - an new archaeological culture distributing mainly in chinese province of Guizhou as well as the recent discoveries in South Vietnam and Cambodia with evidences of southwarding migrational waves from Linnan and Giao Chi area. Somes evidences suggested the southwarding route of OuLe (Au Lac) chieftains following their King An Duong Vuong  were stopping over or staying long perhaps in Dong Noi cave (Ninh Binh province), Xuan Lap (Thanh Hoa prov.) and Lang Va area (Nghe An prov.). Some temples, where delight An Duong Vuong, located in Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, support seemly this hypothese. With the suddly flourishing of Dong Son culture in Lang Vac and Xuan Lap area and with the historical records talking about Ye Lang tribes in the same local during West Han period, Dr. Nguyen Viet suggested that the OuLe (Au Lac) chieftains, who stamed from Ye Lang Xi Ou (Tay Au Da Lang), after failing in Co Loa citadel, came to the Southern Cuu Chan county. In 2nd century AD, they supported the local tribal chief Khu Lien to build the kingdom Linyi (Lam Ap) - previours Champa (Chiem Thanh).
